The Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme was started in 2005 and was announced by the Prime Minister during his speech on 15 August from the Red Fort. It was started for the children and widows of RPF and RPSF people who are serving or have already retired. The scheme was begun in 2008-09 to help in higher studies like B.Tech, MBBS, BCA, B.Ed, and others, which are approved by UGC, AICTE, MCI, and such bodies. Only one course is allowed, and foreign studies are not accepted. Distance learning is also not allowed. Boys are given Rs. 2500 per month and girls are given Rs. 3000, but only after DG/RPF gives approval.

Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for the Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme are as given below:

  • This can be given only to students who took regular admission, and others will not be allowed.
  • Students must have obtained 60% marks or more in their 12th class, diploma, or graduation, which is counted as the Minimum Entry Qualification.
  • The scholarship is allowed for only two children from one family, so this must be checked by both the family and the railway people.
  • Only those colleges or universities that are under the AISHE rule will be accepted, and others will not be counted.

For Fresh Applicants:

  • A Service Certificate must be given by the office of the serving person (for Category IV).
  • A copy of PPO or Discharge Certificate/Book must be uploaded for Categories I, II, and III.

Selection Process

The selection process for PMSS is as shown below:

  • Students fill out the form on NSP and upload the needed documents, then a registration number is sent, which can be used later.
  • The college or institute checks the uploaded documents and then sends them to the Security Department of Zonal Railway or RPSF.
  • Zonal Railway checks the service certificate, dependent proof, PPO, or discharge book, and confirms the category and eligibility.
  • All information is collected, and a merit list is made based on the quota for each zone, and if seats are empty, extra students from other zones are added.
  • The names of selected students and their bank details are sent to PFMS online for the next step.
  • PFMS checks how much total money is needed and starts the process to send money to the student’s bank.
  • Bank accounts of students are checked by PFMS, and the scholarship is sent directly.
  • A special login ID and password is given to colleges and railways for checking and tracking the full process online.
